I wrote this pop-punk song in 2022 for Nur Ein, a songwriting tournament that grew out of the Song Fight community. In Nur Ein contestants write a song each week for a title given to them by a panel of judges, and also have to fulfill a challenge given to them by the judges. The challenge for this round was "cheerful upbeat song" and Jason from the "Friday the 13th" movies immediately came to mind as someone who would sing a cheerful upbeat song about Friday the 13th. He's living his best life, doing the thing he loves most (killing people)! I fell down a rabbit hole of reading the plot synopses for every one of the movies and tried to throw in as many references to them as possible. (Did you know in the first movie the killer is actually Jason's mom?!)
